Factors that affect parenting in inner city neighborhoods
Today, there are concerns of parenting in the inner city neighborhoods where the factors affecting parenting are under scrutiny. This is because the inner city neighborhood is believed to be harsh and full of many challenges, which this research will seek to identify and clarify. The major factors are poverty, family composition and the social disorganization of the inner city neighborhoods.
Poverty
Poverty is caused by high level of joblessness and this has risen especially with the re recent economic depression. Joblessness impacts the lives of children in a negative way, where they affect both single and both parent families in almost equal ways. Poverty also leads to Poor parenting attitudes as a result of stressful life plus maternal psychopathology, which also affects parenting in these areas
Social disorganization of the inner city neighborhoods
Social disorganization of the inner city neighborhoods is also a cause of parenting challenges. Social control and social disorganization in these neighborhoods causes a variety of factors such as decreased family resources, such as existence of many single parent families and population turnover. There is also low trust among neighbors leading to low neighborhood cohesion causing low collectiveness in parenting.
