Essays About Immigration in the United States

The United States immigration policy has been an issue for debates for a while. There are many illegal immigrants in the United States, documented and undocumented. There are children who are born in the United States and they become citizens by birth. However, the number of pregnant women flying to the United States for the sole purpose of giving birth was on the rise. The immigration department saw it necessary to review the issues with immigration to find a solution to the increasing number of immigrants in the United States (Gonzalez 608). The problem is in attacking the person, by passing blanket judgment that will affect many immigrants.

The first issue is that of refusing to legalize children born in the United States whose mothers are foreign nationals (King and Gemma 237). This is based on the claims that some women form china travel to the United States to give birth to children who get automatic citizenship. The other reason is that of the citizens of Mexico who give birth inside the United States and use that reason as a basis for getting citizenship for parents and the whole family. However, these cases make the Unites states government make a blanket judgment of denying all children born in the Unites States automatic citizenship (Espinoza). Passing a blanket judgment is wrong. There may be other people who are studying or working in the States, and they get an opportunity to have a family. Denying the children citizenship because the mothers are foreigners is morally wrong. However, the department of Homeland security can be tasked to carry out back ground checks on all the people applying for a visa. There can be secure, meaningful regulations that can be put in place that respects the right to life, right of children and gender rights.

The other immigrants are looked at as an economic burden or boost. Other people are of the view that they take the jobs that are meant for Americans while others see that they perform jobs that ordinary Americans would not do. There is a group that the government calls undocumented. The government of the United States is so powerful that no illegal immigrant can live in the United States unless the laws are lenient. Those who are documented and give valid reasons for being in the United States should not be deported. The time they have stayed in the United States, the businesses or jobs that they were working on should be considered. The families who are with the people should be considered because most likely the children have been born and raised in the Unites States.

These immigrants come from countries that are friends with the United States or have a working relationship with the United States. China, Germany, African Countries and South American countries are in business with the United States. Taking a blanket decision to deport all illegal immigrants will impact negatively in terms of business and image. People will view the US as a hostile country that does not relate or work with other countries (Contreras 135). On the other hand, illegal immigrants in the United States could be the cause of insecurity, drug trafficking and organized crime in the States. The Obama’s government has been characterized by divided thoughts about issues of illegal immigrants. Some people anticipate that the government will issue legal documentation for all the illegal immigrants who have registered with the authorities. Others think that the illegal immigrants should be deported. The government should be wise. Every action has a consequence.
