The practices and believes of the Nacirema portrays unusual facet, which can describe the extreme behavior of human being. In his work, Professor Linton begins by describing the ritual events of the Nacirema. However, most people misunderstand the culture of this people. These people live in North America between the territory of Canada and Mexico. Anthropologists know little about their origin. Though, traditional have it that the Nacirema came from the east. According to the myths of the Nacirema, their existence originated from their hero by the name Notgnihsaw. The hero is known for his two great things he did. The first thing he did is to through a piece of wampum across the river Pa To Mac. The second thing is that he chopped off a pink tree where the spirit of truth lived.
The culture of the Nacirema people is distinguished by their market economy, which has developed into a wealthy natural home for them. Even though most of the activities of the Nacirema people are in the pursuit of economy, they spend most of their profit in ritual activities. There are four concerns of these rituals: body of human, appearance and health. The four aspects seem to dominate the culture of these people. They believe that human body is ugly and that it is prone to encumbrances and diseases. They believe that the only hope that human being have in order to change this nature is by conducting ritual ceremonies. Every household within the Nacirema community has a special shrine, which they devote to the ritual ceremonies. However, they conduct the ritual in a secretive manner in which no children attend the ceremony. The community has medicine men who give ritual assistance are paid with gifts.
