From the passage in page 46, we clearly distinguish that indeed from the poem, blacks did receive humiliations in their lives. Especially, the black women underwent a lot of suffering for instance they were not allowed to attend classes or even schools but were as enslaved to perform house chore duties to other white women houses. It was indeed a great form of discrimination that was observed at the time of these scenarios. Few women managed to rise from the occasion. Majority did not achieve literacy levels to even read and write thus they could not advocate for their rights since no one was literate enough to represent them (Lovell, 36).
In the second edition preface we find the context and tone differentiate from the ones that were presented in the first preface. In the beginning, the tone almost sounds defeated but in viewing, the reception of her novel in the literary community and mainstream society helped her realize another path in conveying her message. You witness her growth as she realizes through educating black women as the logical conclusion. How long did actually take her to put this mass amount of analysis together? Did this stop her from writing other pieces of literature based on African American feminist thought? If she had, wrote it in a someone elses point of view instead of her own do you believe her novel would have been more accepted by contemporary scholars of that time? Do you believe that the biggest reason of the unpopularity if the book was her being a feminist or being a black women (pertaining to the era)?
In conclusion, it is from the above passages we clearly realize that indeed it was not an easy task for the black women to rise and reach where they are today. This was because of their efforts and perseverance that made them where they are today. Today, those who advocated for the education of the girl child can witness indeed their efforts did bear fruits and did not go unrewarded (Lovell, 34).
