Ben Carson inspires me as a person not only because he made it through his academic life when everything seemed impossible but also because he has continued to improve the quality of human life around the world through his endless neurosurgical operations. Moreover, he finds time after working thirteen hours every day to give inspirational lectures and talks to students, professionals and anyone who has time for him. I got born several years after his birth but came to know much about him through his books such as Gifted Hands, Think Big among others. Similarly, his successful separation of conjoined twins around the world has captured the headlines of most media outlets in the society. In this brief text, I am going to explore how Ben Carson has influenced my life and how his devotion to serve mankind has changed my perceptions about different things.
As an individual, the life of being a student often seems unbearable due to the demands it exerts. For instance, the short periods of doing and submitting assignments coupled with the numerous literature pages one has to turn during his life as a student often proves difficult to go through without sacrifice. On the other hand the modern society offers student’s with all sorts of challenges such as weekend parties, attraction towards the opposite sexes and the desire to just sit and wait for things to happen. All these often tempt a person into contemplating the possibility of dropping out of school. But where do you expect to go without education? Therefore, in reading the books of Ben Carson, I find no reason whatsoever to forgo education. Through sacrifice and commitment everything becomes possible. Ben Carson sacrificed all his favorite television programs after the intervention by her illiterate mother, Sonya Copeland. Similarly, he committed himself to passionately reading at least two books and reviewing them at her mother’s request. It did not take long before Ben Carson moved from the bottom of his class to the very top that previously seemed a dream to him. His fellow classmates got amazed and voted him as the student who is most likely to succeed in life. He earned scholarships and achieved his boyhood dream of becoming a doctor.
This short summary of Ben Carson school life inspires me never to give up but to pursue my dreams as everything is possible if one is willing. His sacrifices shows nothing comes from a silver platter and that one must be ready to forgo some other things in order to achieve more important once. The short period he took before he started to reap the fruits of his hard work is the most inspirational part in his academic life. In simple terms, I am only going to make sacrifices for a short period in my school life but the accruing benefits will stay with me for the rest of my life. Similarly, we must draw motivation from those who see a potential within us no matter how much they lack education. Lastly, the circumstances surrounding us such as divorce, poor living standards and other social problems must never derail our aspirations to become successful in life.
